'Give it a Go...' Success Story A
A is 14 and joined LookwideUK’s ‘Give it a Go…’ programme following a referral from Newcastle Social Services. Concerns had been highlighted regarding A’s ability to interact with his peers, both in and out of school. LookwideUK’s Development Tutor visited A and his parents at home to talk about the programme and A’s parents felt that work to develop his social skills and confidence would be of benefit. A was keen to get involved with all the new activities and has been attending for over six months.
Both A and his parents have identified that taking part in ‘Give it a Go…” has helped him to feel more confident and mature, and he has built new friendships. A does not attend every session but an increase in personal confidence and his ability co communication with other young people and adults has been recognised by both our Development Tutors and his parents.
In May A attended a large organised activity camp in Northumberland alongside 100s of other young people; he’s overcome fears on a high ropes course and had a say in designing an activity programme for the group. Now he’s working toward an environmental John Muir award, and that’s what we call ‘giving it a go…’ Well done!
